Things I need to pay attention to when I want to raise a Border Collie

Welcome to Joyo Pet Shop. Today, I will share with you some precautions for puppies after they arrive at their new home and in the future.

1. Take the puppy home directly after receiving it and do not take it to public places with more viruses such as pet stores, pet hospitals, and pet markets; do not feed it immediately, because some puppies may get carsick and vomit easily. They can only eat after 1 hour, but they can replenish water. If the puppy has vomited or had diarrhea but is in good spirits, do not worry. This is a stress response. Let the puppy rest alone in the cage for two hours after arriving home.
2. The puppy will feel uneasy because of the unfamiliar environment when it arrives at the new home. It is very likely to bark at night. You can close the doors and windows of its room and draw the curtains. The darker the better. No one can comfort it or hit it to let it develop independent abilities. The barking at night usually lasts for 3-7 days.
3. The puppy cannot be bathed within 7 days after arriving at the new home, and make sure that it has received three shots of vaccination before bathing. It is also not allowed to go out for a walk before the three shots of vaccination are completed.
4. Two-month-old puppies are fed twice a day, 70 grams of puppy food (Sensi) per meal, soaked in water, and fed regularly and quantitatively. It is recommended to add a small amount of chicken breast and carrots, but they must be cooked (the amount of food intake varies for each puppy, and can be adjusted according to the softness and hardness of the puppy’s stool. If it is soft, the amount needs to be reduced, and if it is hard, the amount needs to be increased). After one year old, they can be fed once a day, and drinking water can be supplied unlimitedly; after 2 and a half months of age, the dog food does not need to be soaked in water, and after 12 months of age, it can be replaced with dog food. The dog food must be changed for 5 days to avoid spleen and stomach discomfort in puppies. Some parents want to feed puppies with goat milk powder. It is recommended to buy a section of goat milk powder for human babies, which has a higher safety factor than pet-specific goat milk powder. Do not eat cow milk (dairy products), onions, chicken bones, chocolate, spicy, raw meat, alcohol, grapes, and salty and spicy foods.
5. Puppies should be caged as much as possible to avoid demolishing the house, do not sleep on floor tiles to avoid cold, and keep warm in winter.
6. Puppies can be vaccinated against rabies at a pet hospital at least 3 months old (in some areas, dog owners need to apply for a dog license, and can go to a pet hospital with qualifications to apply for a dog license to get a rabies vaccine). I personally recommend a booster shot of antibody vaccine (Vestbene 8 or Vestbene 5).
7. It is recommended that puppies be dewormed once 3 days after arriving home (Frontline), once every 2 months before 12 months of age, and dewormed once every 2 months (Baichongqing), and once every 3 months after 12 months of age (the above is for reference only. It depends on whether the puppy’s stool has worms, whether it eats a lot but does not grow meat, and whether it always scratches). Antibody vaccine and rabies vaccine should be injected once a year, and internal deworming should be done about 5 days before the injection.
8. When walking the dog, the dog must be tied with a leash to avoid contact with stray dogs to prevent virus transmission.
9. If the puppy has any abnormality in the body, please contact the kennel as soon as possible; do not take it directly to the hospital to avoid unnecessary loss of money.

Summary: You need to observe your dog’s stool, mental state, and appetite every day. As long as there are no problems with these three, the dog will generally not get sick.
